Around AD 600, an eruption buried this Maya farming village in ash, preserving houses, kitchens and crops almost intact — hence its nickname, the “Pompeii of the Americas”. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1993.

We round off the visit at the San Andrés archaeological site and museum.
